With a complicated name but straightforward approach, Twenty Seventh Heaven is a coffee hole-in-the-wall, unique find in South Spokane. They did not get the regulars they have from serving froo-froo lattes but rather from serving their coffee black (ok some cream) alongside one of their delicious baked goods. I’m talking bagels, scones, bread, pastries, full loaves, croutons, coffee cake and more straight from the oven, complete with a dust of flour. The kind baker himself greeted us when we walked in! (For any Barbie lovers out there, this reminded me of the opening scene of Barbie Swan Lake.)
We settled on the drip coffee (they also serve decaf, chai, tea and matcha) which was smooth and dry, perfect with a touch of cream. We couldn’t resist a bagel, so tried the “oat honey” which tasted like a nice wheat. Looking around, the light wood compliments the welcoming gray and green. Altogether the place feels like a deep breath, exactly what we needed.
27th Heaven is a little tricky to find, found under a sign that reads “Scratch Bakery.” Get ready to pull off when you see it because parking is immediately to the right. Once you decide what tantalizing treat you will have today, make yourself comfortable in the seating: 2 gray cushion chairs and numerous tables along the wall (they sit two). Because they have air conditioning, the temperature was as Goldy Locks says, “just right.” We sat in the gray seats and got to work, using their average wifi (password: Coffeecake4all or posted on the menu board). A final note, The hours are selective, so be sure to check them before you head out (last I checked they were open Wednesday-Saturday 7:30 am-1:30 pm).
The breakdown:
- Food: 8 (for pastry lovers)
