Cedar Coffee

701 N Monroe St, Spokane, WA 99201

After interning near this coffeehouse and seeing it countless times, I became intrigued. Kayla and I decided to check it out, and, before much time, Cedar became one of our favorite places in Spokane and a necessary stop when we are in the area. I admit sometimes we even drive over an hour just to get to and fro this place.

When you drive up, you can park along the street or turn along College Street where you will find parking lots (note: you do have to pay for parking). On the day in question, we snagged at our favorite spot, kitty corner to the door.

The first time we came in here, and it seems like every time after, we get the chance to chat with either the incredible owner, Igor, or his family. This place is truly the definition of a small family-owned business and a hub for the community. The joy on the barista’s face and the laughter the place seems to brim with are infectious.

By the time you order, you will have looked around and seen the neat combination of natural tones. Also, you would have mused at the menus on the front wall as you walked in. The place smelled like robust coffee when we went, so I was sure we could not go wrong whatever we chose (which after many times here, we know to be true). We ordered two 16 oz lattes with skim milk for use, and a dry cappuccino (AKA more coffee flavor) for an extra coffee lover who joined us on this day. We also tried a pastry with a name we couldn’t pronounce because why not? It was basically the baby of a cinnamon roll and apple croissant, so a definite win. For food, they have a small collection of pastries, cookies and usually one type of sandwich available. Overall, the prices are pretty good, about average.

The coffee is not the only thing that keeps us coming back; the inside is also spacious and lovely. It is an ideal space to study with wood tables and a couch in the front area as well as more tables, couches, and comfy chairs in the back area. The light music playing, average temperature and available WIFI also complement any studies. On this day, we were studying for final exams, so we needed a dependable place to go. This was perfect, helping us stay motivated and productive for a few hours.
