Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters

520 12th St S Suite 150, Arlington, VA 22202

Fresh. Funky. Fantastic. These words all describe Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters. Also, it is somehow is a perfect balance of industrial but cozy, clean but decorated, and aesthetic but authentic.

I chose to make my way to this Pentagon City charm on a Thursday to begin reading for my criminal law class. It was a great place to focus: it has light music, a nice temperature (little chilly in the winter) and a vibe that suggests sure, stay a while. There are also many places to choose to sit: you can plant yourself by the window at one of the two bars looking outside, at a large table in the back, a long table in the middle, or small table dispersed throughout. Also, The free wifi password when I went was “nitro.”

When you gaze up at the menu, you will be amazed at all the options and maybe need the assistance of the barista like I did (luckily, they are more than helpful). I ended up getting a salted caramel latte which was $5.60 because seasonal drinks are currently $1 dollar off on Thursdays (They have specials everyday listed on a board in the back). I was tempted to grab a tasty treat as well but will save that for next time–It has a collection of pastries in a case (cinnamon rolls, croissants, etc.) and some pre-made larger food items (sandwich, yogurt, overnight oats, granola bar).

The coffee was excellent. This one was a little on the sweet side, but had a nice salty finish. Overall, it was a place that instantly brought joy to my tastebuds and was a perfect place study spot. I will be returning soon and often.
