Ampersand is a groovy mix of bar and coffeeshop in downtown Fort Worth, Texas. I went to celebrate (free parking in front for 2 hours) on a Friday after I finished “write on” (the time in law school when you write a paper to try to get on a journal). Nothing says summer like an iced latte and, wow, did this one hit the spot.

As I walked up the steps, I saw the white and black exterior, the inviting sign, and the flowers in full bloom perched in flower boxes. I opened the door to find the place crowded (a good sign) and a menu looking back at me with a list of delightful specialty options. I opted for a regular latte after some thought and hopped up to order. It totaled 4.72 (with whole milk). I almost got one of the few pastries available (they had a muffin and two croissants) but decided to bask in the full glory of my well-earned coffee instead.

After I ordered, I was looking around for a place to sit and found that I needed to venture farther down the rabbit hole into the back of the coffeeshop. After walking through a doorway it transformed from coffeeshop to a chill bar feel. I looked around and found that the industrial floor was covered by relaxed seating and booths. There is a fully stocked bar in this backroom/nightlife hotspot. I sat down and was content to get comfy in a deep blue armchair. Soon, the barista called my drink, and I hopped up to grab it.

One sip from this coffee, and I was stunned. It was creamy, smooth, perfectly roasted and everything coffee should be. I continued to marvel at this coffee as I planted myself and read for a while. People came in and out and mild music played, but it was a nice place to focus. The A/C was definitely on, so if you run cold, bring a sweater (as I did).

In the end, I cannot wait to go back again as soon as possible, and thank you Ampersand for celebrating the end to the first year of law school with me.
