Foundation Coffee Roasters

9650 Main St #46, Fairfax, VA 22031

I wandered to this coffeeshop on a rainy Saturday morning in fall. Leaves falling and sweater on, of course. When driving here, the directions took me to the mall. Be careful to go around the mall to the back (follow the backside of Potbelly’s) to find the entrance. It is tucked away but has loads of free parking.

As I walked in, I was greeted with light jazz and a feeling of warmness. It is an industrial space with concrete flooring, metal chairs and wood tables, minimalist but somehow cozy. I scoured the pastries (savory and sweet along with cakes available) and landed on an almond scone. Pairing it with a large drip with cream, I paid 9.08. P.S. I do not think there are any larger food options. There are many seating options in Foundation–a few tables with four seats, two seats and six seats as well as a bar and a massive communal table.

Of course, I sat at the welcoming communal table and got to work on my journal article. After a few nibbles of the scone, I was obsessed. It is super light and sweet and basically, perfect. The coffee was flavorful and citrusy.

It is overall a great place to study with ample seating, a relatively quiet atmosphere and a great vibe. I stayed for a while and felt comfortable.
