Best CoffeeShops in Washington D.C.

There are exactly 5 billion coffeeshops in and around the District. This means there are a lot of good coffeeshops and a lot of good coffee. This comes to no surprise because this country basically exists because of coffee (jk but the coffee keeps the staffers going). However, this also means knowing where to go can be overwhelming.

I have tried basically all of the coffeeshops (including some less than great). Here are my top picks (after living in the area for quite a while now). I chose these coffeeshops mostly for their coffee but many have great spaces as well.

Commonwealth Joe (520 12th St S Suite 150, Arlington, VA 22202): This coffeeshop is absolutely wonderful. It is a modern place with a slightly industrial feel. It is a great spot to grab a coffee to go or stay for a while. I have been here many times and tried all their different types of coffees and have been continuously impressed. Their food and space is also great. I recommend going on a Thursday for a discount on the specialty drinks!

Rare Bird (230 W Broad St, Falls Church, VA 22046): Rare Bird is a roastry and a neighborhood coffeeshop. These people know their coffee. Everything here is great. I recommend the black coffee with the cream or a latte with a homemade syrup. The space is large and overrun by plants, so basically perfect for staying a while.

Compass Coffee (all over): Compass is great because it serves great coffee in bright, fresh spaces all over town. I go back because the coffee is very good (even purchased coffee from here). I also appreciate the creative flavors they add. My go to at Compass is the mint cold brew.

Well, there is my picks but as mentioned there are tons of great places in the DMV. If you live or travel to the DMV, I would try to make it to these wonderful shops, but there are countless other great ones.
