Are you looking for a coffee shop that also feels like being in a nature retreat? Well, then Caffeina might be the spot for you. Located off of overland road, this coffee shop blends modern industrial touches with a wide array of beautiful plants that create an oasis of creativity. There is ample single and double seating, along with a couple couches for lounging and table large enough for a party of at least eight.
The coffee here is delicious, and so is the food, which is a rarer find than it used to be. They tend to be a bit pricey, although it seems like most coffee shops are getting this way now so I cant really begrudge them for it. They do have balance if you like roast coffee though, as their 12oz drip coffee is only $2.80 AND you can get a refill any time for just $0.50!
Now, lets talk specifics about some of the food and drinks we have gotten to try. The offer a wide variety of hot foods, some bowls, and pastries that I cant wait to continue trying. Also, they have a pretty large collection of sugar free syrups, which is a huge win for those who know the struggle of usually having 2-3 options.
16 oz iced matcha with almond milk- (comes with vanilla in it, I asked for half sweet) $5.55+$0.75 (almond milk) comes to $6.30. Now, matcha can be a hit or miss for me but this one was pretty good. It had a very smooth taste and the little vanilla adds just the amount of creaminess in it.
16oz cold brew with light cream- bold with a touch of bitterness in a good way. Actually a more affordable cold brew with the price starting around $4.00. The tough part though is if you get anything iced at this coffee shop, the smallest size you can get is a 16oz.
Drip coffee- 12oz at $2.85, which is so redeeming. There is a specific counter for drip coffee that usually has four rotating options and a menu that describes the notes of each roast, which I have rarely seen at other coffee shops and sets this one apart in my mind. The way that they curate the experience shows a priority for the customer experience, and a true love of coffee by the shop itself. I have tried many different roasts here and although its hard to pick, I would say my favorite one right now is the Dark Sumatra.
Nan’s smashed quiche- $10.25, at first I was quite surprised by the price of the quiche, but after getting it I understand. First off, its delicious- this one specifically has mushrooms, peppers, and ham that create such a colorful flavor. Also the serving size is HUGE, definitely enough for two people.
This coffee shop always draws me in when I am looking for a place to be creative and pursue different passions, although I have often studied here as well. The atmosphere is quiet and calm, with kind baristas and considerate customers. Also there are many plug ins throughout the coffee shop and they have wifi with its password displayed openly at the front. As I often need to use my computer while at coffee shops, I greatly appreciate when I don’t have to go back up to the counter to ask the barista what the password is.. like they aren’t busy enough. There are also two single person bathrooms and a large parking lot, which functionally are big wins. Most of the coffee shops in Boise are downtown, where you pretty much have to pay to park on the street. Thus having a quality coffee shop outside the center allows for an easier experience is greatly appreciated. As is not having to spend more money just to park, and having a time limit on top of that. The building can get a bit cold though, so I would make sure to bring a sweater or jacket if you run cold.
Coffee: 8.75 , Delicious and love the roast options but again, pricey and you cant get an iced coffee less than a 16oz
Food: 8, delicious but still a bit pricey
Ambiance: 9, I would prefer a couple more pieces of lounge sitting.
