“As we sat here, my soul was happy,” Kayla muttered as we left this beautiful coffeeshop. She summed up why we go to coffeeshops, why we write about coffeeshops and I dare say why 64% of adults sip on a cup of this brown drink each day perfectly.
Maple Street Bistro is a coffeeshop in North Spokane on, you guessed it, Maple Street (5520 N Maple St, Spokane, WA 99205 to be exact). When we entered this house-looking building, we saw a fittingly homey interior. It has a cute, fresh ambience with black, white and brightly colored flowers on the menus and walls, surrounded by lots of windows. After taking it all in and being welcomed by the barista, we found ourselves a table in the corner of this medium shop. They also offer the option to sit outside or just pick up coffee to go in the to go window.
We picked up our physical menus and perused the numerous options for breakfast, lunch, and, of course, coffee. We ordered a latte with almond milk and a sweet roll latte (a house specialty). After finishing our order and grabbing some free water out of the container, we sat down at one of their tables. They immediately sent us a neat survey because we put in our email.
We camped out for a while, attempting to productively work on a few tasks (great wifi, needed to ask for it), but mostly chatting. Our only complaints are the solo bathroom and it was slightly cold *cue sweater.*
Thoughts on the coffee:
The sweet roll latte was good (it reads as a homemade caramel sauce and pecan latte with cinnamon and maple vanilla whipped cream). When we ordered, we went light on the caramel because I don’t like it super sweet. We were impressed when the barista actually listened (often I request this and sip into candy land)! I thought the whipped cream might make it really sweet, but the whipped cream was made with almond milk too and complemented the drink well! The cinnamon and maple are strong enough to add a little fall leaf ambience to the drink, if you know what I mean, but they aren’t overpowering. Overall, I would give the drink a 10/10 on cozy warm ambience and a 8/10 on the flavor profile. It is still a bit sweet for me because I would’ve prefer a hint more espresso taste, but the flavors blended together beautifully. In terms of mood, this would be a perfect match for sitting in the Hufflepuff-like common room next to the fire during fall (for any Harry Potter nerds out there like us).
The almond milk latte was also good, and the coffee naturally slightly sweeter than expected. It has a mellow cap of foam that was met with smooth espresso.
